Sherando High School has named Jamie McCarty its new head track coach. McCarty, who has served as Sherando’s head cross country coach and assistant track coach the past two years, succeeds Tom Grim who decided to step down as head track coach after leading the Warriors for 16 seasons. Grim led Sherando’s girls’ track team to a Northwestern District Championship in 2010. He will continue to serve as the school’s head cheerleading coach.
Sherando High School’s Coordinator of Student Activities Jason Barbe says, “We are excited to name Coach McCarty as our new head track coach. He is very familiar with our track program thanks to his experience working with the team as an assistant coach the past two seasons. He has done a great job serving as our cross country coach since 2014 and we are looking forward to seeing him build upon the outstanding track program Coach Grim has led since 2000.”
Prior to coaching cross country and track at Sherando, McCarty served as both the head track and cross country coach at Pulaski High School. He is a graduate of James Wood High School where he ran both track and cross country.
