The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Frederick County Public Schools a Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation during the 2016-17 budget year.  This marks the fourth consecutive year Frederick County Public Schools has received the honor.  The award is presented to school districts that have met or exceeded the criteria for the award which are designed to guide school business officials toward producing a quality school budget presentation.

To be considered for the award, Frederick County Public Schools submitted the School Board Approved Budget for FY17 to undergo a rigorous review based on the stringent criteria established by the MBA program. The review was completed by a team of professional auditors who have received additional MBA criteria-specific training from ASBO.

Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “It is a great honor to be recognized by ASBO and receive the organization’s Meritorious Budget Award.  Managing the budget development process and maintaining an extremely high level of transparency is challenging work, but our finance department staff does an excellent job preparing a comprehensive budget document that clearly highlights the school division’s operations and finances in a way that is easy to understand.”
