The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Frederick County Public Schools a Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation during the 2016-17 budget year. This marks the fourth consecutive year Frederick County Public Schools has received the honor. The award is presented to school districts that have met or exceeded the criteria for the award which are designed to guide school business officials toward producing a quality school budget presentation.
To be considered for the award, Frederick County Public Schools submitted the School Board Approved Budget for FY17 to undergo a rigorous review based on the stringent criteria established by the MBA program. The review was completed by a team of professional auditors who have received additional MBA criteria-specific training from ASBO.
Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “It is a great honor to be recognized by ASBO and receive the organization’s Meritorious Budget Award. Managing the budget development process and maintaining an extremely high level of transparency is challenging work, but our finance department staff does an excellent job preparing a comprehensive budget document that clearly highlights the school division’s operations and finances in a way that is easy to understand.”

Founded in 1910, ASBO International has over 4,000 school business management professionals as members. ASBO members are the finance decision makers in school districts around the world. They are the people, traditionally behind the scenes, whose job it is to make sure that whatever resources are available for educating our children are used efficiently and effectively to provide good teachers and a school environment that optimizes learning. School business officials are responsible for helping to ensure that students have a way to get to school, feel safe in their classrooms, and have the supplies they need to learn and grow. ASBO provides programs and services to our members to promote the highest standards of school business management practices.
