Frederick County Public Schools will conduct kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year from March 6-10 at each of the school division’s 11 elementary schools. Parents registering children to enter school for the first time in August 2017 should complete the registration process at the elementary school their child will attend. Specific registration times can be acquired by contacting each school or clicking the Enrolling Students link on the Frederick County Public Schools website.

All children who will be 5 years of age on or before September 30, 2017, must register for kindergarten. Parents wishing to delay their child's attendance for one year must request permission, in writing, from the Superintendent of Schools.

Parents registering a child are required by Virginia law to present a certified copy of the pupil's birth record; a certificate of physical examination from a physician or a health department; and a certificate with complete dates for DPT or DTaP, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Chickenpox immunizations from a physician or health department. Parents should register their child for kindergarten even if all of the above have not been obtained. In addition, parents must present two forms of proof that they reside in the attendance zone in which they are enrolling their student. One form must be a photo ID such as a valid Virginia driver’s license, a valid Virginia ID card from the Department of Motor Vehicles or a valid passport. The second proof of residency may be a utility bill, a property tax bill, a rental/lease contract or a home purchase contract. Please note that bills may be dated no more than two months prior to the current date. Phone bills and bank statements are not accepted.

It is important for parents to register their children for kindergarten during the registration period because it allows schools to better plan for the upcoming school year. Parents who are unable to register their children during the designated registration period are encouraged to complete the registration process as soon as possible by visiting the elementary school their child will attend during regular business hours.

Frederick County Public Schools offers a full-day kindergarten program at all of its elementary schools. The first day of school for the 2016-17 school year will be August 16. For additional information regarding kindergarten registration, individuals may contact Carrie Vivas at 540-662-3888 ext. 88147.
