2016-17 SOL Testing Expedited Retake Information

Action taken during the 2015 General Assembly session allows for students in grades 3-8 to take expedited retakes of SOL tests. Frederick County Public Schools must offer expedited retakes of the reading, math, science and history SOL tests to students in grades 3-8 who meet the state’s criteria for SOL test retakes. In order to be eligible to retake an SOL test, the school must receive permission from students’ parents or guardians and the following conditions must be met:
  • A student must be passing the class associated with the test, and;
  • Failed the test with a score between 375 to 399 (400 and above is passing), or;
  • Failed the test by any margin and have extenuating circumstances and receive approval by the Division Superintendent.
Students that meet the conditions noted above will receive one opportunity to retake a failed SOL test prior to the end of the school year. Students whose parents grant permission for them to retake an SOL test will receive instructional assistance from their schools in preparing for the retake in order to enhance their chance for success.

Frederick County Public Schools will be administering spring SOL tests between May 8 and June 2. SOL test retakes will be administered prior to the end of the 2016-17 school year on June 8.
