FCPS and Sheriff’s Office Collaborate on School Safety Drill to be Held October 23 at Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School

FCPS and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a collaborative school safety drill on Monday, October 23 at Admiral Richard E. Byrd Middle School. The event will begin with a safety briefing for all participants at 8:30 a.m., followed by the live drill and conclude with a debriefing with representatives from the Sheriff’s Office as well as school division staff.

FCPS Receives School Security Grant

Governor McAuliffe today awarded $6 million in School Security Equipment Grants to 104 school divisions across the state. FCPS was awarded nearly $72,000 which will be used to enhance secure entrances at a number of schools as well as provide additional security cameras and other safety measures.

Redbud Run Elementary School Accreditation Status Determined

The Virginia Board of Education has determined the 2017-18 accreditation status for Redbud Run Elementary School to be Partially Accredited: Reconstituted School. The accreditation status was assigned after it was determined that the school is making adequate progress toward meeting state standards for full accreditation.

FCPS Enters into Resolution Agreement Regarding Softball Facilities at Sherando

FCPS has voluntarily entered into a Resolution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and plans to take steps to provide practice and competitive fields for the junior varsity and varsity softball teams that are equivalent to the field it provides for Sherando’s junior varsity and varsity baseball teams.

Frederick County Public Schools’ On-Time Graduation Rate at Nearly 95 Percent

For the seventh consecutive year, Frederick County Public Schools’ on-time graduation rate has climbed. The on-time graduation rate for members of Frederick County Public Schools’ Class of 2017 was 94.8 percent. The statewide rate was 91.1 percent. In addition, the dropout rate for the FCPS Class of 2017 declined to 2.3 percent compared to the 5.8 percent dropout rate reported for the state.

SAT Scores Achieved by FCPS Students Exceed the State and National Mean Scores

The overall mean score of FCPS students who took the revised SAT in 2016-17 exceeded both the state and national all-schools mean scores. Frederick County’s mean score of 1119 exceeded the state mean score by 17 points and the national mean score by 59 points.

STEAM Grant Awarded to Bass-Hoover Elementary School

The Virginia Council for Mathematics Supervision has awarded Bass-Hoover Elementary School a grant worth close to $4,600 to support the creation of a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) lab at the school.

FCPS has 13 Schools Fully Accredited; Zero Focus Schools

Frederick County Public Schools is continuing to make progress toward having all schools fully accredited. Over the past four years, the number of Fully Accredited schools has increased from nine to 13 while the number of Focus Schools has dropped from five to zero.
